Choosing the system is the easy part
Every vendor will give you a good demonstration. What decides whether it actually works for your firm is the move itself — what comes across, what does not, and who is beside you on the Monday morning you go live. We build LAPM OS, and we run the migration onto it ourselves.
The platform
LAPM OS puts the whole firm on one system, built for Australian and New Zealand practice: trust accounting to Law Society rules, the Legal Services Award, AU and NZ precedents and court forms. Not a global product with a local setting.
The move
A named project manager from kick-off to sign-off. Extraction, configuration, a trial import you can test, training before go-live and hypercare afterwards. Fifteen systems, and the only team in APAC able to extract from some of them.
What will not come across
We tell you before you commit, because we work across every major platform rather than selling one. Scheduled around a weekend — out Friday 6pm, live Monday 8am — so there is usually nothing to re-key.
Working with LAPM throughout our change of Practice Management System has been a really positive experience. The training was clear and practical, and left me feeling comfortable using a new practice management system. The migration process was also much smoother than I expected. While there were some bugs along the way, LAPM were quick to respond, remedy issues and work with us to make sure we had what we needed. Overall, moving practice management systems was nowhere near as stressful as I thought it would be, largely because of the support and guidance we received from LAPM.

Xero and MYOB were not built for law firms
General ledger packages do a good job of general business. A law firm earns differently: disbursements and cost recoveries carry their own GST treatment, partners want the profit and loss split by fee earner and area of law, and the payroll runs on the Legal Services Award.
