FilePro data migration
Leaving FilePro? We will get your data out.
Matters, contacts, documents, time, invoices, trust history and the ledger — brought across from FilePro, reconciled, and landed in LAPM OS or whichever system you are moving to.
Moving off FilePro
It is an operations exercise, not a file copy.
Whatever you are moving to, the hard part is not the new software. It is getting FilePro's data out in a usable shape, cleaning it up on the way, and landing it so the office can run on the Monday.
We work with your team to get all relevant data for the migration, and the office keeps working in FilePro while it is prepared.
What comes across from FilePro
Matters and contacts
Every matter with its parties, types and key dates, and the contacts behind them. Duplicates merged, not copied.
Documents and email
Filed to the matter they belong to, including archived files.
Time, invoices and debtors
Unbilled time, issued invoices and what is still owed, so billing carries on from where it stopped.
Trust history and the ledger
Reconciled against FilePro before you switch, so the opening balances are right on day one.
Where you go next
Onto LAPM OS, or somewhere else.
We sell LAPM OS: matters, documents, billing, trust and office accounting, payroll and task-driven AI in one platform, at $250 per user per month. If it suits your firm, that is where we will put you.
But we also move firms onto systems we do not sell. Because we are not tied to one answer, we can tell you plainly what will and will not come across from FilePro before you commit to anything.
Moving onto FilePro instead?
We migrate in both directions. If FilePro is where your firm is going, we can move you there too.
Cleaned up on the way
Three spellings of the same client, contacts with no email, precedents nobody has opened in years. A migration is the one moment you get to fix that, so we go through it with you before it lands.
How it runs
Out of FilePro on Friday. Live on Monday.
- Kick-off
A project manager is assigned, captures your configuration requirements, confirms the go-live date and books training.
- Extraction
We work with your team to get all relevant data for the migration.
- Trial import
A trial import before go-live, so you can test your own data in the new system.
- Training
By role, on your own data, before go-live rather than after it, at times that suit you.
- Readiness
Out of FilePro by 6pm on the Friday, with your final reports run.
- Go-live
Financial and matter data imported and complete by 8am on the Monday.
- Approval report
You check that the data has landed and sign it off.
- Hypercare
We stay on after go-live, because the questions that matter appear in the second week, when the first invoices and the first reconciliation come round.
“Working with LAPM throughout our change of Practice Management System has been a really positive experience. The training was clear and practical, and left me feeling comfortable using a new practice management system. The migration process was also much smoother than I expected. While there were some bugs along the way, LAPM were quick to respond, remedy issues and work with us to make sure we had what we needed. Overall, moving practice management systems was nowhere near as stressful as I thought it would be, largely because of the support and guidance we received from LAPM.”

Questions
FilePro migration questions, answered.
How long does a FilePro migration take?
The minimum lead time is two to four weeks, depending on how much data you have and your availability. We give you an estimate up front once we can see your data and file storage.
Can we keep working in FilePro during the migration?
Yes. Your team keeps working in FilePro while the migration is prepared. The cutover is usually scheduled around a weekend: out of the old system Friday 6pm, live Monday 8am.
Will our trust balances come across from FilePro correctly?
Trust history and the ledger are reconciled against the old system to the cent before you switch, and we walk you and your auditor through exactly how the transfer is done.
How much does it cost to migrate from FilePro?
Each migration is scoped per firm. Tell us roughly how many matters you have and we will come back with a fixed quote and a timeline. You get a number, not a range.
Do we have to move to LAPM OS?
No. We also move firms onto systems we do not sell. And if you are moving onto FilePro from somewhere else, we do that too. We migrate in both directions.
Moving off FilePro?
Tell us roughly how many matters you have in FilePro, and we will come back with a fixed quote and a timeline. If staying put, or going somewhere that is not us, is the better answer, we will say that too.
